1. Keep your browser and plugins updated

In order to keep your internet connection secure and your personal data kept private. It is important to look at all of your browsers and plugins. Whatever browser you may use, it’s worth ensuring this is updated regularly. Avoid using any version that might be outdated and potentially cause you problems.

The same goes for plugins and browser add-ons. These can sometimes be dangerous if left outdated. Also, if you’ve downloaded a plugin that’s not quite as authentic as you think it to be.

With that being said, be sure to keep your browser and plugins updated.

2. Use Ad blockers

Ad blockers are useful for preventing any advertisements from popping up on your screen and potentially causing you to click on something you shouldn’t have.

In the world of cybercrime, criminals are finding more unique and easier to capture ways when it comes to finding their next victim. Even those that are proficient when it comes to the internet, can still find themselves in a pickle. An ad blocker might be worth installing so that you can avoid any problems like this.

3. Consider what sites and pages you access

There are likely plenty of sites and pages you can access freely but it’s important that you’re able to access all parts of the internet, so long as it’s safe to do so.

It’s worth understanding how to navigate sites in other countries and ensuring that when you navigate these, you are doing so carefully.

Some might have an ISP block, which is not always a sign of something dangerous. It’s also a good thing if you read up on what is ISP blocking so that you know how to avoid it to enjoy internet browsing without being frozen out of a certain page or website.

4. Get a good firewall software in place

A good firewall software is an absolute must when it comes to protecting yourself and your safety online. Firewalls are preventative measures that keep the cyber criminals and scams at bay. Try to get a good firewall software in place and that way you can rest assured that your internet browsing is securely protected.

5. Trust your gut

Finally, trust your gut. You often know when something isn’t quite right and when it comes to the internet and playing it safe, it’s always good to listen to your instinct and avoid things online when they don’t seem right.

These tips will keep you safe online and most importantly, will enable you to continue having fun on the internet this year.
